When extreme high tides prevented access to Shell Island, Nuevo Mazatlan makes a great back up camp just 4 miles away.

Lunch in Ensenada

We decide to go via Hwy. 3 from Ensenada which makes a great stop for tacos… and mariachi music! Elizabeth and Sarah get an ear full!

Ensenada is home to a really big flag at the harbor.

Nuevo Mazatlan

Originally called Agua de Chale after an old well. Nuevo Mazatlan founder Luis Castellanos Moreno made a tourist camp here in the mid 1960’s and planted hundreds of salt cedars to create a beautiful forest campground.

A wide sand beach is found here.
